When I first learned this technique, I knew what I wanted to do! I wanted to be able to team up some earrings with my bee themed jewellery and wanted to try using the honeycomb texture on these studs.
I hand cut the hexagons and then used the ancient Korean technique to apply thegold leaf. Keum Boo uses fine silver which is made by reticulating sterlingsilver (heating and cooling over and over again until the fine silver rises tothe surface) and then reheating the silver and applying the 24k gold leaf tothe surface of the silver and burnishing it with an agate burnisher. I use a doming block to give the hexagons a slight curve, I also added the honeycomb texture using my rolling mill.
The hexagon stud earrings measure approx 1.5cms and are handmade in my workshop here in Norfolk. These earrings have sterling silver posts and butterfly scrolls.
Like my other jewellery, these earrings come gift wrapped in a white jewellery box with my logo in gold foil. It is tied with navy blue ribbon and a care label, polishing cloth and thank you card is also included.
