Top 7 locally designed gifts

November 23, 2017

Well it's nearly the end of November and there's been a shift here at Jewellery Towers towards Christmas shopping and trying to make plans around weekend Christmas craft fairs!  I'm not big on shopping (read my previous blog for more info) so I do like to get my gifts as I go along and craft fairs are perfect!  We are so lucky to have such amazing local designers here in Norfolk and so I thought for this blog I would share with you my Top 7 gifts this year....

Top Tip 1!  My own jewellery - I am allowed to give it a shameless plug aren't I?  I'm really enjoying making these rose gold hoops.  Rose gold is so on trend at the moment and the simplicity of these is what makes them really special.

Top Tip 2! Molten Aqua Glass - Apart from being stunning gifts, the glass lady is a lovely lady who works really hard.  All her glass is of a simple style and teamed with the amazing soaps she has sourced from other like minded makers, they make a gorgeous gift.  I have to say that the aqua ones are my favourite but Claire has recently made a red dish and the red is such a stunning dark colour.  I would love to receive any of her glass for Christmas - check her glass out at www.moltenaqua.com  Here's my favourite .....

Top Tip 3!  Flint Cottage - The wood geek and the unofficial Norfolk Tourist Board make a brilliant team who upcycle wood to make wonderful homewares.  Each animal has a special name and is painted in Farrow and Ball paint.  My favourite wood have to be (get it?!) their hares. Have a look at all their creations here https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/FlintCottageDesigns    Here's Harold Hare....

Top Tip 4!  Heidi Swain's new novel!  In fact any of Heidi Swain's novels are well worth a read and a gift!  Heidi and I were at school together and I am immensely proud of her achievements.  Her latest novel 'Sleigh Rides and Silver Bells' is currently sitting pretty at Number 5 in the Sunday Times Best Seller Author list! Yay for Heidi! It is currently available from any good Supermarket and if you send her publisher a book tile then you can have it signed by her too!

Top Tip 5!  For Christmas cards and prints you cannot get much better than Amanda Colville's Mangle Prints.  Amanda is a local lino cutter extraordinaire.  She uses an old 1930s washing mangle as a printing press! We have her prints around our house and I have given them as gifts for many reasons, anniversary gifts, thank yous and birthdays.  Check out her wonderful creations at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/mangleprints  Here is her divine bee print.....

Top Tip 6!  I met Sue Candy at Burnham Market summer craft fair and just fell in love with her ceramics.  Her coastal and horticultural theme is just stunning and she has made such a wonderful mixture of useful home ornaments  and tableware.  My favourite pieces are her chutney pot and this one with the blackbirds is so beautiful.  She has a wonderful website too with lots of imformation about how she makes everything by hand.... http://www.suecandy.co.uk/

Last Top Tip!  Last but by no means least is a lovely little company I met at Norwich a few weeks ago called Seamless and Ginger.  Amy is studying Surface Design and has also started her own company selling her designs made in to a variety of items like notebooks (I am a complete stationery addict), pencil cases, pocket mirrors and these stunning baubles....  Amy's website is stunning too!  https://www.seamlessandginger.com/

I hope you find some lovely gifts and you also receive some handmade goodies this year.  If you would like to see some of these lovely local designers makes in real life please head out to craft fairs at Holt Hall 25/26 Nov, Pensthorpe 26 Nov, Belles at St Nicks 2 Dec, Greshams 4th Dec or just cruise around their websites and online shops over the next few weeks from the comfort of your armchair.  Make sure you are sorted with a hot chocolate (or sloe gin) and a mince pie!  Happy Shopping! xx
