When I learned to do this Keum Boo technique, I loved it from the moment I laid the gold leaf on the fine silver! These heart earrings have a fine silver base and half of them is gold and half silver. I had a clear picture in my head of these earrings and how I wanted them to look and the necklace which went with them.
I hand cut the hearts and then used the ancient Korean technique to apply the gold leaf. Keum Boo uses fine silver which is made by reticulating sterling silver (heating and cooling over and over again until the fine silver rises to the surface) and then reheating the silver and applying the 24k gold leaf to the surface of the silver and burnishing it with an agate burnisher. I use a doming block to give the hearts a slight curve.
The hearts measure approx 1.5cms and are handmade in my workshop here in Norfolk. There is a matching necklace too. These studs have sterling silver posts and butterfly scrolls.
Like my other jewellery, these earrings come gift wrapped in a white jewellery box with my logo in gold foil. It is tied with navy blue ribbon and a care label, polishing cloth and thank you card is also included.
