The Sunrise Collection
Most mornings begin with a dog walk. It’s my quiet time — a chance to breathe in the fresh air, unknot my thoughts, and admire the colours that roll across the Norfolk sky. There’s something about that moment between night and day that feels full of possibility. It’s calm, it’s clear, and it’s often when the best ideas find their way to me.
The soft light, the changing hues, and that gentle sense of optimism inspired The Sunrise Collection — a small family of silver jewellery with subtle Art Deco lines. Each piece began as a wax carving, shaped to echo the rising curves and fan motifs that defined the 1920s — an era famous for its bold geometry, symmetry and sense of confidence.
The Art Deco movement first appeared after the First World War, when people were craving beauty, order and optimism. Designers turned to architecture, nature and technology for inspiration, creating jewellery that was modern, elegant, and full of hope for a brighter future. Think of the sweeping fan shapes, sunburst patterns and clean, architectural lines — all symbols of progress and new beginnings.
Art Deco jewellery often combined strong geometry with luxurious materials — platinum, diamonds and coloured gemstones — creating striking contrasts of light and shadow. I wanted to capture that same spirit in my own way, using sterling silver to reflect the light of Norfolk’s skies and soft oxidation to create depth. The result is a collection that feels timeless, a little nostalgic, and very wearable today.
Each piece in The Sunrise Collection was first drawn as a gazillion doodles and drawings. Then I started to refine them all by cutting the shapes in silver and deciding on the right size and orientation. Then I made up some examples and wore them for a while to see how they felt. I've had great help from Staurt, my fabulous engraver. The process gives every curve a softness that feels tactile and personal, while the geometry keeps the design grounded in that Deco heritage. The necklaces and studs are simple enough for everyday wear, but there’s something quietly strong about them too — like the first beam of light breaking through the morning haze.
As with all my work, this collection is rooted in meaning. For me, it’s a reminder that every day brings a new beginning — a fresh start, a new idea, or just a moment of calm before the day unfolds.
Whether you’re an early riser or prefer to greet the day a little later, I hope these pieces carry that same sense of light and possibility — a little sunrise to wear, wherever you are.
